Dual Enrollment: Collegiate Academy

The UNR: Collegiate Academy at Sierra Vista High School offers qualified Junior and Senior high school students the opportunity to earn college credits, for a reduced fee, prior to high school graduation.
Students in the Collegiate Academy are dual enrolled at both Sierra Vista High School and The University of Nevada, Reno. Students may take a variety of classes to earn both high school and college credit.
What are the benefits of participating in the Collegiate Academy?
Students who challenge themselves in dual enrollment courses will be supported by Sierra Vista teachers who have been approved by UNR to teach college courses in our school, as well as have the opportunity to receive additional support in a college support period during their school day.
Dual enrollment provides students an opportunity to get a head start on their college education, explore potential career paths, and save money on future tuition costs. The program helps build confidence, prepares students for the rigor of college coursework, and supports a smooth transition to life after graduation. It’s a smart choice for motivated students ready to take the next step in their education.
What are the eligibility requirements?
To qualify for the Dual Enrollment Program, students must:
- Be a junior or senior;
- Must be in good standing with Sierra Vista High School;
- Students must meet the course prerequisites through qualifying ACT score or qualifying preparatory courses.
What is the cost to the student?
Each semester long dual enrollment course has a fee of $110. Financial aid is available for most students. The reduced course fee is significantly less than the tuition cost at UNR and financial assistance is available for most students.
How are credits awarded?
Students who successfully complete a dual enrollment course will earn High School credit on their SVHS transcript as well as college credit on their UNR transcript. GPA bonus points will be awarded on the high school transcript (.05 per semester).
