Attendance Policy

Attendance enforcement is a shared responsibility between the Clark County School District and the student’s parent or legal guardian. The parent, legal guardian or other person in the state of Nevada having control or charge of any student is required to send the student to school during all times that the public school is in session (NRS. 392.040). The Clark County School District requires that students enrolled for school at Sierra Vista High School attend school regularly in accordance with the Nevada Revised Statutes. Each student is expected to attend school the entire school day. 

Student tardiness is a serious disruption to educational progress. Tardiness interferes with time to teach and infringes on the educational rights of other students. It is the expectation that all students attend every class, every day, on time. Any student that does not meet these expectations may be placed on the No-Go list and restricted from extra-curricular activities and/or campus privileges including but not limited to prom, grad night, homecoming, athletic activities, performances, competitions, dances, parking privileges, etc. There is no requirement or expectation that the teachers provide make-up work for students truant from their class. Progressive discipline will be administered for violation of these expectations.  

ONLY contacts listed in Infinite Campus can clear absences or tardies. Absences not cleared within 3 school days will be considered truant. There is no requirement or expectation that the teachers provide make-up work for the students truant from their class. Consequences for truancies can include detention, In-House Suspension, Saturday School, and students being placed on the No-Go list.

The following are considered excused absences and tardies: illness, injury, medical or dental appointments, court or probation appointments, and funeral services for immediate family.   

The Clark County School District expects that students are in class during school hours. Individual student’s absences should be limited to a maximum of seven (7) total absences per semester. Eight (8) or more absences will result in denial of credit and denial of a student obtaining their permit or driver's license. Students who fail to meet the attendance standard will be unable to secure the school official’s signature required on DMV-301 to apply for an instruction permit or drivers license. (The seven (7) absence rule is aligned to the block schedule). 

Please note if a student has excessive absences, tardies or late arrivals we will request documentation such as a doctor’s note in order to clear the absence or tardy. If a note is not received within three (3) days of the student returning to school, the absence will remain unexcused.
